Pasture Rangeland Forage Insurance

USDA-Subsidized protection against rainfall shortfalls.

When drought threatens your forage production, Pasture, Rangeland, and Forage Insurance (PRF) provides the financial protection you need. This USDA Risk Management Agency program protects hay producers and livestock grazers against low forage production caused by insufficient rainfall.

Simple, effective coverage

Understanding PRF coverage.

PRF is a unique "single peril" insurance program that compensates for below-normal precipitation in your area. Unlike traditional crop insurance that measures your actual yields, PRF uses NOAA precipitation data and a grid system to determine payouts based on rainfall deficits.

Coverage areas are divided into 17-mile by 17-mile grids, with your acreage assigned based on location. When precipitation falls below historical averages during your selected coverage periods, you receive compensation to purchase replacement feed or offset reduced forage production.

essential risk management

Unique protection for forage operations.

If you produce hay or graze livestock on pasture, you're eligible for PRF insurance. This program protects both commercial hay operations and ranchers who depend on pasture for livestock feed.

Unlike other livestock operations, ranchers historically couldn't insure their forage crops because yields are difficult to measure. PRF solves this challenge by basing coverage on measurable precipitation data rather than subjective yield assessments.

When drought strikes, PRF provides the financial resources to maintain your operation without liquidating livestock prematurely.
