Agricultural Cargo & Commodity Insurance

Coverage that moves with your product.

Goods in transit carry real risk — theft, damage, delays, and losses that can strain business relationships and your bottom line. At Graybeal, we work with carriers who understand the realities of moving product, whether that's across town or across state lines.

What cargo insurance covers

Your product moves. Your coverage should too.

Cargo insurance protects goods while they're in transit by land, and can extend to warehouse storage, consolidation, and exhibition risks as well. For manufacturers, distributors, and commodity traders, it's the coverage that ensures a loss in transit doesn't become a loss to your operation. We work with multiple carriers to find programs that fit how your product moves and what it's worth.

Built for ag and commercial operation alike

Hauling commodities? Coverage matters.

For ag operations and trucking businesses, cargo insurance is especially relevant. Grain, livestock, equipment, and other commodities moving through the supply chain represent significant value — and significant exposure. We understand the ag trucking world and help make sure your cargo coverage reflects the volume, frequency, and nature of what you're hauling.

For PNW ag operations, that often means wheat and grain moving out of eastern Washington and Oregon to port facilities along the Columbia River, potatoes and onions headed to processing facilities in Idaho and Oregon, livestock being transported between ranches and feedlots, and farm equipment moving between operations during planting and harvest. Each of these has different coverage requirements — both in terms of commodity value and the risks specific to how and where it moves.

The broker difference

Let's make sure your cargo is covered end to end.

If your business depends on getting product from one place to another, let's talk through your exposure and make sure the right coverage is in place before something goes wrong in transit.

What ag haulers ask us about cargo coverage

Agricultural cargo insurance — common questions.

Does my commercial auto policy cover the load I'm hauling?
Not automatically. Commercial auto covers your vehicle — cargo insurance covers what's inside it. For ag haulers carrying grain, livestock, or other commodities, these are two separate coverages and both are typically necessary for complete protection.

Is my cargo covered while it's in a grain elevator or storage facility?
Cargo insurance can often be extended to cover goods while in warehouse storage or consolidation facilities, not just while in transit. If your operation involves storing commodities before or after transport, we'll make sure your coverage follows the product through the full handling chain.

What happens if commodity prices change between loading and delivery?
Commodity value fluctuations are a real exposure for grain and ag haulers. We work with carriers who understand agricultural commodity markets and can structure coverage that accounts for price volatility — so you're not underinsured during a market spike.
