What is covers
Common claims EPLI addresses.
EPLI covers claims brought by employees alleging their legal rights were violated. That includes wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, failure to promote, wrongful discipline, and mismanagement of employee benefit plans, among others. The policy covers legal defense costs whether your business wins or loses, as well as judgments and settlements. It does not typically cover punitive damages, civil or criminal fines, or liabilities already covered by workers compensation.
Smaller businesses aren't exempt
Every employer carries this risk.
Employment-related lawsuits aren't limited to large corporations. Small and mid-size businesses face the same exposure — and often have fewer internal resources to manage a claim when one arises. For businesses that qualify, EPLI can sometimes be added as an endorsement to an existing Business Owners Policy, making it a straightforward addition to coverage already in place.
