What D&O Insurance Actually does
D&O Insurance Coverage.
A D&O policy covers personal losses for directors and officers who are sued as a result of their role in leading an organization. It can also reimburse the organization for legal fees and defense costs incurred on their behalf. Coverage applies to for-profit businesses and non-profits alike, and policies are typically purchased by the organization to cover its leadership as a group. Most policies exclude fraud and criminal activity.
Protection for your organization's leaders
Leadership decisions carry real liability.
Claims against directors and officers can come from employees, shareholders, donors, regulators, or competitors — and they don't require wrongdoing to be costly. Employment practices, financial decisions, conflicts of interest, and failure to meet fiduciary duties are among the most common triggers. For non-profits and smaller organizations especially, D&O coverage is often overlooked until it's needed.
